Postnatal Yoga
Firefly’s postnatal classes are 60 minutes of wonderful yoga dedicated solely to mum. These classes use micro-movements to reactivate your deep abdominal muscles and redevelop a reflexive and responsive core.
Classes are progressive and will gently take you from early postnatal recovery, working with diastasis recti and pelvic floor weakness, back to feeling strong again. It is never too late to start…
We focus on whole-body alignment to realign the spine and connect with deep core muscles and pelvic floor and work from the inside out to support the body's natural healing process. We also use postures to open the chest and upper body, often tight from feeding and cuddling your baby. These postures also facilitate easier breathing which help reactivate deep core muscles as well as calming the central nervous system. This allows you to relax and alleviate any feelings of anxiety which can be very common in the postnatal period. We work to strengthen weakened pelvic floor muscles and incorporate isotonic based movements to gently reawaken core muscles. Our aim is to have you floating out of class, feeling a little brighter and a little bit more like your old self!
Postnatal classes are taught in small groups so you ensure each student is given individual hands-on instruction. You are welcome to bring your baby to class.
What is the difference between postnatal yoga and baby yoga?
Postnatal yoga works mostly with mum to restrengthen and restore core functionality. You are welcome to bring your baby to class.
Baby yoga is a practice involving both of you, a deeply connecting practice that is more baby-focussed than postnatal yoga. We sing songs and practice yoga with your baby to gently assist them reaching their development milestones. Mother & baby yoga is a lovely progression as your baby becomes more curious and active!
Whilst Firefly postnatal exercises are suitable from birth, students must have medical clearance from their GP before attending class and be a minimum of 6 weeks postpartum. Rest up mamas!
